NOLA Wise works with contractors who use a building science approach to diagnose and fix your home. Problems in the building envelope (shell) and/or the heating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment can lead to high energy bills, uneven temperatures from room-to-room, drafts, moisture, mold, mildew, poor indoor air quality, pest infestations, humidity levels and even premature deterioration of building materials. This "whole house" approach means that if one system has a problem, it impacts the other systems’ ability to function properly.

NOLA Wise contractors focus on cost-effective energy conservation measures which may include the following: whole house air sealing, insulation, ductwork air sealing, heating & cooling equipment, lighting fixtures, radiant barrier, window and door repair, weather stripping, solar film insulation, minor or incidental structural repairs, installation of light bulbs, installation of smoke detectors, installation of carbon monoxide detectors, installation of plumbing fixtures, hot water heaters, and other appliances.

Local contractors must meet demanding criteria in order to join the NOLA Wise only program, ensuring that they are highly trained to make improvements with a “whole house” understanding. Only NOLA Wise contractors have the skills and understanding that make your house system as a whole function at its best. NOLA Wise backs up the work with our quality assurance program, vetting the contractors and spot-checking the work. In order to qualify for the NOLA Wise loan product through Fidelity Homestead Savings Bank, you must use a NOLA Wise-approved contractor.

All NOLA Wise Participating Contractors meet the following mandatory criteria:

• A Louisiana Commercial, Residential, and/ or Home Improvement Specialist Contractor’s License

• Proof of Liability and Workers Compensation Insurance

• Building Performance Institute (BPI) Accredited Contractor status

• EPA Lead Based Paint RRP Training Certification as required by the Environmental Protection Agency

• Criminal Background Check

• Louisiana Secretary of State Registration

• Ciiy of New Orleans Occupational License
